![]() The first one is a very good learning experience and just for that it is worthwhile. You can focus on learning the basis upon which games are built or focus on going through the process of making a game. My advice is that a this point you have two choices. Before all of this I dabbled in scripting with engine like RPG maker and Gamemaker. Then I worked for a while at mobile game studio, followed by a stint at WB Games and finally I joined Will at Thunder Lotus Games to create Jotun. I learned programming in college, with a bachelor in software engineering. I didn't self teach myself C++, so I wouldn't know how effective those books are. By going with a well known engine that abstract most of the rendering, physics, input, audio and asset management, we were able to spend most of our time on the gameplay side of the game. ![]() While it is very interesting stuff and a great learning experience, I do not believe it is a good business decision to do this in an indie studio. In our case we mostly did it to create different ground surface and to render the character differently when out of view.įrom your comment you seem more interested into what goes into creating an engine. ![]() You do get to write your own shaders, but for a 2D game it is less necessary. The graphic pipeline is mostly hidden by the engine, so there is no choice of OpenGL, Direct3D, etc. Coming from a C++ background I naturally went with C#. The engine basically force you to select between either C# and javascript. Well most of those decision were made for us when we choose to use Unity. If you want more technical details I can give you some. Frog Hubient Thank you! See you around.I am sorry, I directed you to those videos as they give a very broad albeit superficial view into the different aspect of creating a game. So what do you think of this game? Leave a comment below if you have any questions. Well That’s it for Jotun: Valhalla Edition. Jotun: Valhalla Edition features Valhalla Mode! This mode is the ultimate fight against the Jotun! This is a true challenge for anyone who wants to impress the Gods. You will need only your two-handed axe and the blessings from the Gods to defeat them. Jotun lets you play Thora, the Viking warrior who died an ignoble death and must prove herself before she can enter Valhalla.Find runes that will unleash the giant Norse elementals, the Jotun, in vast areas of Norse Purgatory. Thora must collect the runes on both stages before she can go to the boss battle, where she will face one of five giants. Ginnungagap is the game’s central hub, from which players have five access points. However, a limited number can be upgraded to three. Frigg’s Healing and Freya’s Speed are also available. After the 2-hit combo, they can swing and dodge for a third strike. The dodge is a roll that players can use to avoid attacks. ![]() The axe chop, a light attack that does little damage, can be used in either a 2-hit combo or 3-hit combo. It takes longer to execute, but does more damage than the axe chop. The game’s most powerful attack is the axe swing. The combat system in the game is quite basic, with the three main actions being axe swing, dodge, and axe chop. Secret locations contain Ithunn’s Apples that give Thora a permanent boost in health. A God Shrine is where Thora can unlock and increase God Powers. Each stage has a Rune that the player must reach in order to continue the story. There are many types of puzzles that use axe swings to interact with objects (e.g., trees, vines, and boulders). Axe swings are often used to interact with objects (i.e. Exploration involves exploring different stages with giants to defeat and puzzles to solve. There are also a few enemies that you must fight. Apart from boss battles, the game revolves around exploration and solving puzzles. Jotun creates his art in a frame-by-frame, hand-drawn style. After proving herself to be a worthy fighter, she ascends to Valhalla. She fights Odin, after defeating the lightning giant Hagalaz and the plant giant Jera. She will be able to impress the gods, and gain entry into Valhalla. After suffering an untimely death, she must travel across all realms to defeat Jotunn, the giant elements of chaos, nature, and power. The story centers on Thora, a recently deceased Viking woman.
